Yateks B+ Portable Series 2.2mm Videoscope for Precision Turbine Component Inspection

An industrial borescope is a tool used to inspect the inside of industrial equipment. It usually consists of a long flexible tube and a camera, which can be used to inspect in narrow spaces. For the inspection of precision turbine components, industrial borescopes can play an important role.

Which parts of aircraft turbines can be inspected with industrial borescope?

Using an industrial borescope, you can inspect the blades, blade roots, blade gaps, blade surfaces and other key components inside the turbine. Through the borescope’s camera, the operator can clearly observe the condition of these components, including whether there is damage, wear, cracks or other defects.

Industrial borescopes can also be used to inspect pipes, connectors and other parts inside the turbine that are difficult to observe directly to ensure their integrity and normal operation.

An aerospace and power generation component manufacturing company needed to inspect the inside of their high-quality turbine parts for deficiencies. Being a supplier to major turbine engine OEMs in the United States, rigorous quality standards had be 100& met.

Deficiencies such as cracks, rust, and foreign object debris (FOD) can cause catastrophic turbine failure. Turbine components have many small, intricate passages and bores where these deficiencies can occur, so inspectors must inspect every single cavity in every single part to ensure it meets quality standards.

The specific inspection application is called for the Yateks B+ Portable Series 2.2 mm OD Video Borescope. Scope tip articulation was not required, and they needed a small and cost-effective tool to fit inside the cavities of the blade to perform the quality inspection. The bores were large enough for a 2.2 mm diameter scope to fit inside comfortably. The scope provided sufficient image resolution, ideal focus length, and media capture capability to properly visualize and document FOD or part defects.
